Hurricane Katrina was a tropical cyclone that hit southeast United States. The hurricane took almost 1,800 lives and was the worst natural disaster in United States history. It passed through the Bahamas, Florida, and New Orleans, and it intensified after reaching the Gulf of México. In the Gulf of México, the hurricane reached category 3 and became at its strongest when over water. The hurricane circulated over the entire gulf.
