1 Sept 2004 Jahr - Janet Frame

Beschreibung:

Growing up in poverty and against a background of traumatic family events (two children drowned) meant a difficult childhood for Jane Frame. In adult life, she had a nervous breakdown and spent some time in a mental hospital. She is today one of the most important NZ writers.
Her three autobiographical books "To the Island", "An Angel at My Table" and "The Envoy from Mirror City" were made into films by Jane Champion.

“What, in all the world, could I do to earn my living and still live as myself, as I knew myself to be. Temporary masks, I knew, had their place; everyone was wearing them, they were the human rage; but not masks cemented in place until the wearer could not breathe and was eventually suffocated.”

― Janet Frame, An Angel at my Table
