Afater the death of Amalikiah, his brother Ammoron was made king of the Lamanites. His appointment seems to be by the voice of the people, and not just hereditary. This was likely influenced by the death of Amalikiah in battle, and thus Ammoron likely became king, at least in part, as a kind of battlefield commission.
