In August 1916, popular unrest swept the entire Akmola region. Military militias of the Sarbaz (warriors) were organized in the Korgalzhinsk, Karabulak, Korzhinkuly, Yereymentau, and Silety volosts. The workers-Kazakhs of Petropavlovsk , Kokshetau , Atbasar , Karaganda , Dzhezkazgan , Baikonur , Spassk joined the insurgents.
