President Franklin D. Roosevelt succeeded Herbert Hoover at a time when the American economy was worse than it had ever been. Roosevelt needed to make a change. The change he proposed was the New Deal a series of economic reforms that would utilize the government to help boost the economy and get people jobs. His critics said that the New Deal giving the Federal government to much power, while proponents said that desperate times called for desperate measures. The New Deal did help the economy recover along with the Second World War, which required manufacturing of weapons and people willing to fight.
