While President Kennedy was riding in an open limousine in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, he was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald, who left very few reasons for why he assassinated Kennedy, was gunned down two days later while being transported from police headquarters to jail. For many days after, the nation mourned the loss of Kennedy. Many people were hoping he would be able to address many more issues than the Cold War and the Civil Rights Movement that he had already begun working on but was unable to complete because of his assassination. Lyndon B. Johnson replaced Kennedy after his death.
