The Roman Inquisition primarily focused on the intellectual elite such as Martin Luther and John Calvin. The Inquisition also published the Index of Forbidden Books, a list of books which were considered to contain heresy and/or present a danger to the Roman Catholic faith. The Inquisition threatened to excommunicate any Church member who read or distributed books on the List of Prohibited Books.
