Willie, having one of the highest draft numbers in the land, had a decision to make. The first was that he could take the risk of being drafted into the military, a horrible fate which he would like to avoid at all costs. The second was to voluntarily enter the Navy, a terrible outcome as well, but not nearly as bad as the former. Willie did not see himself as a military man, and the possibility of either of those fates scared and worried him. After long discussion with his family, and in particular his mother, he came to the conclusion that he will not enlist in the Navy and will pray that he is not drafted. This was because they decided that the military is the military, and either way Willie would suffer. Best to try and avoid that outcome. With his decision made, it was now up to Willie to live his life as normal, hoping and praying every day that he doesn’t wake up to find himself in the United States military, already on the way to his death or a fate even worse.
