The Haitian Revolution was a very important event in the history of uprisings. Before Haiti was a free nation, it was under the control of France. Led by Spanish, French, African, and British protester and most influentially an ex-slave, Toussaint L’Ouverture, the uprising successfully made Haiti a nation free of slavery. It was the only uprising to create a nation totally free of slavery and led by non-white rulers. The Revolution took 12 years, starting in 1791 and ending in 1804.
