This deadly outbreak occurred in West Africa. It was believed to have accumulated about 3,000 cases in August. Leading into October, there were about 8,400 people infected and about 4,000 deaths. The most infected nations were Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. Health care workers were at the greatest risk, with about 400 affected and more than 230 died. Moreover, it is considered a delicacy to eat fruit bats in West Africa which led to the family of the first 2 year old victim (patient 0). The WHO declared that fruit bats is Ebola's natural host.
