28 Mai 1830 Jahr - Indian Removal Act

Beschreibung:

Indian Removal Act (May 28, 1830):

This act authorized the president to grant Indian tribes unsettled western prairie land in exchange for their more desirable territories. Andrew Jackson signed laws that forced many tribes to trek across the country and leave most of what they loved and were used to behind. While this was mostly peaceful with the Northern tribes, the southern tribes, such as the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Seminole, Cherokee, and Creek, refused to give up their cultivated farms, homes, and government as easily. Around 100,000 tribesmen were forced to leave by Military Presence in the 1830s. Almost 25% died along the way. Many were chained up and under-clothed and under-fed. The Trail of Tears was from 1838 – 1839 and included horrible conditions for the Native American Victims. The seminole Wars even occurred amongst some Florida tribes that refused to leave.
