The goal was to register African Americans to vote during the Freedom Summer. There were schools set up and people went door to door to get people out and registered. Main people involved were Bob Moses, Andrew Goodman, Medgar Edwards, Micheal Schwearer and James Chainy (Chainy, Goodman, and Schwearer were beaten and eventually found dead while trying to sign up). The Freedom Summer occurred all around Mississippi. This was caused by the increasing civil rights movement and one effect of it was Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and the passing of the Voting Rights Act.
