The fourth generation of leaders in China began after Jiang Zemin's administration in 2002, marking the first orderly exchange of power including term limits. The fourth generation is said to have lasted from 2002-2012 during which time Hu Jintao served as General Secretary. The fourth generation saw large economic improvements started by the previous administrations and the boom of the Chinese international economy. The fourth generation was succeeded by Xi Jinping, the current president of China.
