30 Jun 1676 Jahr - Bacon's Rebellion
Beschreibung:
uprising of Virginian farmers and indentured servants led by Nathaniel Bacon. These people had been forced out onto the frontier-lands, where they were attacked many times by Native American groups, yet Governor Berkeley had refused to be involved in the matter. These angry farmers took matters into their own hands and waged a bloody war on the Native Americans, burned down the Capital, and chased Berkeley away. After Bacon’s death, however, many rebels were executed by a reinstated Berkeley administration. This uprising of indentured servants made plantation owners wary of their own servants’ possibility of a repeat rebellion, and this anxiety opened the doors for African slavery to infiltrate the continent.
