25 Aug 1912 Jahr - Establishment of the KMT
Beschreibung:
The KMT was founded by Sun Yat-Sen in 1912 with the principle of establishing Chinese identity as well as upholding modernity in a society that put an extraordinary amount of emphasis on tradition. They helped bring down the Qing Emperor Puyi and became the majority party in the first Chinese Assembly. The KMT led a failed coup to eliminate the newly appointed president, Yuan Shikai, who abused his powers as president by disregarding the constitution. Yuan led the KMT into exile until it was later banded with other revolutionary parties to form the Kuomintang of China. After the death of Yuan in 1916, China was split apart into regions controlled by warlords. With the help of the Soviet Union and its Communist International organization, the new KMT established its government in Guangzhou. Sun Yat-Sen dies in 1925, granting the head of the KMT to Chiang Kai-Shek. in 1926, Chiang leads the "Northern Expedition", successfully claiming power throughout China against the warlords.
