14 Jul 1854 Jahr - History Of Sanitation

Beschreibung:

- Sanitation first started back in Greece where they had stalls of stone where they would cut a hole and the waste would then fall in an area where then water would be poured down and "flushed away"

- First modern Toilet was invented in 1596 by Sir John Harington, it called for a 2-foot-deep oval bowl waterproofed with pitch, resin and wax and fed by water from an upstairs cistern

- With the invention of sanitation events/diseases such as cholera and typhoid fever were significantly reduced when their drinking water wasn't near their waste. However there were people who didn't believe that such a thing was needed. After all Koch wasn't able to fulfill his own postulate for Cholera and people didn't believe that poop was the reason for the disease. Another man named Max von Pettenkofer in 1885 drank a vial of poop to prove that it didn't cause disease. He ended up getting the disease but didn't die from it - therefore it was still considered wrong (somehow?)
