1 Jan 1920 Jahr - The 1920’s – Europe and North America

Beschreibung:

Often referred to as the “Roaring Twenties” the 1920’s for western culture were a time of massive economic, social and political development following the end of the first world war in 1914. The economic prosperity following the first world war can be argued to have been the beginning of consumerism/ consumer culture. We saw the beginning of the “celebrity” culture within movie and sports and people had more expendable income to enjoy these things prompting the creation of larger theaters and stadiums. The end of the 1920’s is often marked by “Black Tuesday” when the stock market crashed sending the west into the great depression. The twenties were more a cultural revolution than anything else but I would suggest it was a move to the right; if a small one. Government’s became less involved compared the extreme craze of governments during the previous decade, in addition the extreme economic and technological developments were caused by a free market system, and the crash of the “Roaring Twenties”, Black Tuesday was also caused by the same system.
