Description: The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal between the United States and the French, causing the U.S. to gain a 827000 square miles of land in the west for the price of $15 million.
Causes: Thomas Jefferson, the president of the United States at the time, had wanted more land for farmers to grow the agricultural business and easy access the Pacific ocean for trading purposes.
Historical Impact: This purchase caused the United States to grow immensely. This western growth would also go to result in the Westward Expansion, which benefited the states economically and ended up spreading ideas that would lead to movements.
