It was a period of liberal goverment following a military uprising against the absolute monarchy of Fernando VII. Colonel Rafael del Riego leads a large part of the Spanish army in a mutiny, demanding a liberal constitution. Congress of Verona. Austria, Prussia, Russia and France crush the revolt.
The revolution of 1820 brought into power the “jailbirds"
