1 Jan 1764 Jahr - American Revenue Act of 1764
Beschreibung:
It cut the duty of molasses in half but in return strictly enforced the tax. It also added more goods to the list to be taxed. Prime Minister George Greenfield encouraged the enforcement of these this tax.
Causes: The Molasses Act of 1733 was heavily avoided by the colonists. It was not uncommon for molasses and sugar to be smuggled passed the British controlled ports. This hurt the economy in the French West Indies because very few people bought their exports since it was more expensive.
Historical Impact: It increased the tensions between the American colonist and British officials.
