This war between the British and the US began because of British interference in US shipping and westward expansion. In the war, Britain invaded the US and captured Washington DC, setting fire to both the Capitol Building and White House. This war was a very major event at the time because it marked the place neutrality was dropped and the cries for war were fulfilled by James Madison.
