Hieroglyphics can be pictures of living creatures (ie: egyptian vulture), objects used in daily life (ie: basket w/ handle), or a symbol (ie: rectangle (symbol for land)). Hieroglyphic writing, a system that has characters and symbols, that when you put them together they create words.
The word Hieroglyphics means holy writing. Egyptians believed that there is power in a name so pharaohs names were written in their tombs.
