15 März 1355 Jahr - The Ides of March Revolt of 1355 CE Spartacists start a revolt in Rome Roman Legate Gaius Aemilius Scaurus restores order

Beschreibung:

With the Roman Empire devastated by plague and beset from within by spartacist uprisings, anti-monarchic sentiments reached their tipping point in early 1355. With the legionary armies devastated by plague, there was little to stop the masses of plebeians and proletarians from storming the Senate, killing many of the remaining senators and their associates.

Gaius Aemilius Scaurus, a roman legate stationed in northern Italy, was able to march down to Rome and restore order to the city, managing it with minimal bloodshed.

Well-positioned to name himself emperor, Scaurus instead listened to the people and heard their discontent with the imperial monarchy - discontent that he happened to share with them. Upon the Palatine hill, Scaurus proclaimed that Rome would once again become a republic of the people and senate, ruled by two consuls and a princeps elected by the Senate.
