After Needham, Lazzaro Spallanzani made similar experiments with the intention to refute John Needham’s claims regarding spontaneous life. His experiment had containers that were not exposed to air which did not result in microbial life forming, and those containers that were unsealed eventually had microbial life in them. This was important to biology because it shows how the understanding of the world is constantly changing due to continuous, and rigorous scrutinizations of the many hypotheses about the world.
