1 Jan 1852 Jahr - Whigs Disentigrate
Beschreibung:
Members of the Whig party disagreed on candidates, and split. Some supported the idea of a candidate who would allow slavery in all territories while others decided between Lewis Cass, Stephen Douglas, and James Buchanan, all of which advocated popular sovereignty. This created a split and ultimately led to the disintegration of the party and furthered the issue of slavery by allowing it to divide not only the nation but also its political parties.
