in 1940, joined with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) to establish the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB)2 with authority to accredit schools of architecture nationally. The 1940 founding agreement also announced the intention to create an integrated system of architecture education that would allow schools with varying resources and circumstances to develop according to their particular needs.
