During this time, the Pope met with King Pippin the Short of the Frankish kingdom, with the hopes of having Pippin adopt the Roman liturgy and chant throughout his kingdom. Pippin thought this was a great idea and, through this unified alliance between the church and state, helped to consolidate the diverse area he ruled.
