Though the Jews and the Romans had been fighting for many years, the First Jewish-Roman War inevitably ended with Rome sacking Jerusalem. During this event, both the First and Second Temples were destroyed, which is still commemorated to this day during the Jewish holiday of Tisha B'Av.
