The development of a high-quality 3D survey of the historic buildings of the old city with the funds channelled by the Saudi Government from 2013 onwards, will offer a precious graphic tool that allows an easy and precise verification of the rate of the deteriorations taking place in the different buildings of the old city. The regular update of these 3D laser scans will offer almost immediate answers and could direct the conservation choices.
