16 St. 37 Min, 1 Jun 1967 Jahr - A referendum is held to include the Indigenous Australians in the census and unify rights and laws nationally.

Beschreibung:

After much conversation and disagreement surrounding the issue of Indigenous Australians gaining the right to be included in the national censuses, a referendum was held to settle the debate. The outcome was that the Australian population overwhelmingly believed that the constitution should in fact be amended to allow the inclusion of Aboriginals in the census and for the Commonwealth to create new laws for them. This feat made a massive difference in how the government was seem to perceive the Indigenous population, and further demonstrated the changing attitude of Australians towards Aboriginal recognition.
