The hulk was a prison ship. This ship was developed and used in Europe to transport felons across channels and rivers. This ship was incapable of entering the ocean. Its large design had many floors under the deck which had many bars and shackles to keep prisoners. Its large hull with many decks also gave this ship a promising mercantile name.
