When the British invade the Chesapeake Bay, this is a large failure under Madison's administration. When the British invade they are met with only a local militia out of Washington that must defend its capital from an entire naval fleet. James Madison is the leader of these troops and even he is unable to defend Washington, and must abandon it and let British soldiers burn the White House and take over Washington. This is one of the lowest points in the War of 1812, and James Madison's allowance of the British soldiers to burn the White House creates a model for what not should happen in this country. Currently, the White House is one of the most secure places in this country as a result of Madison's mistake.
