18 St. 21 Min, 5 Apr 1764 Jahr - The Sugar Act
of 1764
Beschreibung:
At the end of the French and Indian War, the British government, headed by George Grenville, was essentually broke. In order to gain revenue, Parliament enacted a number of measures designed to increase government income by placing duties, or taxes, on many items imported, exported, or otherwise necessary to the economic security of the colonies. The Sugar Act was supposed to help regulate trade, collect taxes and help stop smuggling amoung other things, however it is best remembered as the root of organized resistance to British governmental authority.
