1 Aug 1590 Jahr - John White returns to the Roanoke settlement to find the colony has disappeared
Beschreibung:
August 1587: 115 English settlers landed at Roanoake Island, off the coast of North Carolina to build a colony. Soon after, John White returned to England for more people and supplies, intending on a quick return. Just as he arrived in England, a huge naval war broke out with Spain. Queen Elizabeth I called upon every ship to battle with the Spanish Armada. He did not return to Roanoake until August 1590, where he could find no trace of the settlers of three years before, not even members of his family. All that was left was the word "CROATOAN" carved on a tree.
