Abd al-Rahman was the last surviving member of the Umyyad Dynasty after the Abbasids murdered his family. He made it to Spain and gathered support from remaining Umayyad forces in the area. He made Cordoba his capitol city in 755 A.D. This Dynasty lasted until about 1492 A.D.
