John Adams is elected as a Federalist. Him and the rest of the party believe that the existing government and the wealthy, more educated class should have the most political power. This is also when the Federalist Papers came out. These gave a Federalist interpretation of the Constitution. With the emergence of the Federalists, an Anti-Federalist party rose in opposition. They believed that most average people in the country had the education and common sense to have a hand in running the country.
