13 Dez 1534 Jahr - Henry VIII ends Papal authority in England
Beschreibung:
Due to a lack of male heirs, not for lack of trying, and a wife who was too old for childbirth, Henry VIII was in a rather desperate situation. He decided the best way to obtain an heir was to simply get a new wife and try again. However, the pop rejected his request for annulment. So, Henry VIII did the sensible thing and decided to completely separate from the Catholic Church, and named himself head of the church of England. While Henry VIII himself was a catholic, the archbishop he appointed, Thomas Cranmer, was decidedly not. He implemented protestant reforms throughout England. Although later monarchs would attempt to restore ties with the church, the damge was already done, and England remained protestant.
