The Know Nothing Party was a “Nativist” political party that was anti-Catholic and wanted to extend the amount of time it took immigrants to become citizens and voters. They also wanted to prevent immigrants from holding public office. They were also very anti-Irish because Irish were Catholics. They tried to suppress immigrants rights.
