In 1521, Hernan Cortes, the leader of the Spanish, conquered the Aztecs and claimed Mexico for Spain.
He wanted to the Aztecs to be killed because they raided many cities to sacrifice people to gods. He also helped colonize Cuba and became a governor of New Spain.
