16 St. 5 Min, 1 Jan 1896 Jahr - Plessy V. Ferguson
Beschreibung:
This event was triggered by an incident in 1892 when an african american train passenger Homer Plessy refused to sit in a Jim Crow car, breaking Louisiana law. The court ruled that a state law that “implies merely a legal distinction” between white and blacks did not conflict with the 13th and 14th amendments. By a 7-1 vote, Plessy had lost. Former slave owner John Marshall stated after the court hearing stated; “ The white deem themselves the dominant race, “ but the constitution recognizes no superior, dominant, ruling class of citizens. He continued to state “ Our constitution is color blind.
