14 Jul 1908 Jahr - THOMAS EDISON'S CARTEL
Beschreibung:
In 1908, Edison attempted to exploit his invention by charging companies extortionate amounts of money per foot of film.
Anyone who was suspected of using a non-Edison production would haver their equipment smashed by people that worked for Edison.
Therefore, many directors and filmmakers move from New York to Los Angeles, California.
In addition to the distance from Edison and his workers, LA was a much cheaper place to create films. New York was quickly becoming an empire for filmmaking, resulting in high studio costs. In LA. the land was so much cheaper in comparisson that filmmakers could afford to build their own private studios.
Another advantage of moving to LA was that the weather was much more predictable than that in New York. providing much better shooting conditions.
