An estimated 227,898 people died during an earthquake that affected Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Bangladesh, Maldives, Malaysia, Myanmar, Madagascar, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Seychelles, South Africa, and Yemen. The 9.1 Magnitude earthquake caused a tsunami that had waves that reached 100 feet in some areas.
