ii. Brings U.S. into World War II; Hitler declares war on United States
iii. Roosevelt declares war on Germany
iv. The U.S. is going to provide massive amounts of material to the Soviet Union
v. GRAND ALLIANCE
1) Alliances of three countries, British, U.S., Soviet Union
vi. Russian winter 1941-1942 closes down on everyone; German soldiers not prepared
vii. They start dying off
viii. When German troops pass by Ukraine, the Ukrainians welcome them with open arms since they don't like Stalin and the famine that they went through under his rule
ix. Hitler treats them terribly
x. Russian nationalism is what Stalin uses to ignite people's belief that they can push back against Nazis
xi. The Great Patriotic War is what the Russians call WORLD WAR II
xii. He tells peasants to create more land and grow more; they respond; for Soviet peasants, this was the best it ever got (when Stalin let them do their thing)
xiii. Stalin did, however, have a tight rule on the rest of society. Workers had no rights, the Gulag system/slave labor continued on
