1 Jan 1889 Jahr - Ghost Dance Religion was founded
Beschreibung:
The Paiutes have been pushed off their ancestral lands and have been forced to live on Reservations. A Southern Paiute named Wovoka founded the Ghost Dance religion, which prophesied an end to "white" domination. Wovoka experienced a powerful vision during a solar eclipse, in which he saw the earth returned back to its natural state, unfenced plains of buffalo roaming, no "white" men, and the Indians living in harmony. He preached that to achieve this vision the Indians needed to get rid of the "white" influence. He wanted the Indians to pray, meditate, and dance. Within a couple years, this religion had caused anger and frustration all over the west. The Paiutes stayed out of the violence, but some tribes interpreted the religion to be renewed violence against the "whites".
