Vasco Nuñez de Balboa was born in 1475 and was a Spanish conquistador and an explorer. More than 500 years ago Balboa spent more than a decade hunting for treasure but found something even bigger. He was the first European to see the Pacific Coast. Later in his life, he led an expedition of American Indians to go to what is now Panama, to find gold. His life ended January 12, 1519.
