9 Mai 1893 Jahr - The Kinetoscope

Beschreibung:

On this date, the first ever device that could play back film was released to the public. The Kinetoscope was conceptualized by Thomas Edison and built by William Kennedy and Laune Dickson. The machine had long reels of 35mm film wrapped around wheels, that once cranked, would be projected up onto the lens and into the peep hole.

People would pay to come see the images, it would have been the first time they had ever saw something like this.

At first Edison couldn't see the success of his invention, he thought people wouldn't want to see 'flickers' that were more than 10 minutes. He thought of it more as a spectacle, he certainly never predicted that his invention was the beginning of cinema history.

His invention planted the seed to cinema viewing and a world of potential in the entertainment and art industry. He kickstarted the idea of being able to watch moving pictures for fun.
