The Louisiana Purchase added 828,000,000 square miles of territory from France into the United States of America. The territory stretched from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains, and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Canadian border. 15 states were eventually created. This can be considered one of the most important achievements of Thomas Jefferson’s time in office.
