25 Nov 1491 Jahr - Treaty of Granada

Beschreibung:

The agreement on the Treaty of Granada between the ruler of Granada named King Muhammad XII with Ferdinand and Isabella in 1491 marked the ending of Muslim ruler in Spain through the conquest of the last stronghold of the Moors, Granada and Alhambra Palace. Among the contents of the treaty included a number of rights to the Moors such as protection of their laws, place of worship and properties in exchange for their surrender. The good terms between both sides were finally destroyed when Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, the archbishop of Toledo, arrived in Granada and started to exercise harsh treatments and forced conversion towards the Muslims. The event is seen as important because the agreement of the treaty indirectly caused almost the whole Granada to become Christians and consequently, brought Granada to the downfall as well as triggered the Rebellion of Alpujarras in the 16th century.
