1 Jan 1891 Jahr - Thomas Edison patented the Kinetoscope.

after testing a couple of working prototypes Edison patented his invention. The patent used 35mm film.

The Kinetoscope was a large wooden box with a peephole on the top that housed a number of rollers that the film was woven in between and would roll quickly in front of a lightbulb. So when the user would look through the peephole, the light shining behind each individual frame at high speeds created the illusion of movement.

This invention was important as it set a bench mark for film standards with many of it's elements such as the 35mm film still being used up until recently.
