The CD was invented by a man called James Russel, it was an evolution of Laser Disc technology. Along with this a CD player was released for the first time in Japan in the same year, by Sony. This was an important invention because it allowed films and music to last much longer with better quality. The first DVD to be released in the UK was called "Twister" costing at £22 in 1996. The cd and cd player was a very significant invention because they were easier to use and less likely to break. I think that they were important because it was the beginning of further developments in how films are viewed, leading to the invention of the blu-ray disc.
